Manual Degausser for Low-Volume Data Destruction

Who the V91 Max Is Designed For

The V91 Max is built for organizations managing periodic volumes of hard drives and backup tapes where secure erasure is essential. It suits IT departments, healthcare facilities, financial institutions, and compliance-driven operations seeking an in-house, cost-effective solution without the need for automated high-throughput systems.

Why Manual Degaussing Is Still Effective

Manual degaussing remains highly effective when powered by a strong magnetic field. The V91 Max delivers 7,000 gauss to neutralize modern high-coercivity media, permanently destroying stored data. Its multi-cycle process ensures complete erasure while meeting regulatory standards for secure media sanitization.

How the V91 Max Hard Drive Degausser Works

The V91 Max uses a high-energy 7,000 gauss magnetic field to erase hard drives and backup tapes by disrupting the magnetic domains that store data, delivering a typical 12-second gauss time while keeping operation simple and controlled.

  • Turn the security key to the On position, then place the hard drive or tape on the top operational surface.
  • Press the red Power button to apply the magnetic field for 3–5 seconds, then press again to switch it off.
  • Rotate the media 90° on the surface and repeat the 3–5 second field application.
  • Flip the media over and repeat the rotate-and-apply process to complete four total degauss cycles.
  • Remove the media once the fourth cycle is complete; the data is fully erased and the drive should not be reused.

Magnetic Strength and Erasure Performance

  • Generates a high-energy 7,000 gauss magnetic field engineered to neutralize modern high-coercivity hard drives and magnetic backup tapes.
  • Permanently disrupts magnetic data structures, making recovery impossible and ensuring complete media destruction.
  • Delivers a typical 12-second erase cycle for fast, controlled sanitization.
  • Processes approximately 20 hard drives or 40 backup tapes per hour in low-volume environments.

Designed to provide reliable performance in a compact, cost-effective manual hard drive degausser platform.

Compliance and Data Security Standards

  • Supports secure data destruction aligned with NIST SP 800-88 and NIST SP 800-36 media sanitization guidelines.
  • Helps organizations meet regulatory requirements for disposing of sensitive information.
  • Assists with compliance across healthcare, financial, government, and corporate data protection frameworks.
  • Reduces risk of data breaches by ensuring magnetic media is permanently rendered unreadable.
  • Ideal for audit-driven environments requiring documented, compliant data destruction processes.

Safety and Operator Protection

  • Engineered to meet ICNIRP magnetic exposure guidelines for safe workplace operation.
  • Concentrates the magnetic field near the top operational surface to limit surrounding exposure.
  • Maintains strong erasure performance while protecting operators and nearby equipment.
  • Supports controlled, repeatable degaussing cycles without unnecessary field dispersion.

Provides a secure working environment while serving as a powerful manual hard drive degausser.

Description

The Verity V91 Max hard drive degausser is for the low volume operator who wishes to have an effective yet low budget solution to eliminate magnetic media security risks and total hard drive destruction.

Easy Operation

The V91 HDD Max is simple to use.

For erasing Hard Drives the operator turns the security key to the “On” position and places the media on the top surface of the degausser. Pressing the red “Power” button turns on the magnetic field and the media is held in place for 3-5 seconds. Pressing the “Power” button turns off the magnetic field. The operator should then rotate the media 90° on the top of the degausser and repeat the process by applying the magnetic field for another 3-5 seconds. The media should then be flipped over and the process repeated making 4 degauss cycles in total. On completion of the fourth cycle , the media will be completely erased.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can hard drives be reused after degaussing?

After degaussing with the V91 Max, hard drives should not be reused. The powerful magnetic field permanently disrupts the drive’s internal structure, including critical servo tracks, making the device inoperable. This ensures complete data destruction and prevents any possibility of information recovery.

Is this degausser suitable for SSDs?

The V91 Max is designed specifically for magnetic media such as hard disk drives and backup tapes. Solid-state drives do not store data magnetically, so degaussing is not effective for SSD erasure. Alternative physical destruction or electronic sanitization methods are required for solid-state media.

When should I choose a manual vs automatic degausser?

A manual degausser is ideal for low-volume environments requiring secure, cost-effective data destruction with controlled operation. Automatic systems are better suited for high-throughput facilities processing continuous media streams. The V91 Max offers strong erasure performance without the infrastructure demands of automated equipment.
